Height & Width at Maturity: 3–4 ft tall, 3–4 ft wide.

Growth Habit: Upright, shrub-like perennial with clumps of blue-green foliage; forms black seed pods after bloom.

Suggested Use: Borders, native plant gardens, prairie plantings, and perennial beds.

Seed/Spread Type: Spreads slowly by deep taproot; does not transplant well.

Light Requirements: Full sun to light shade (best flowering in full sun).

Water Requirements: Moderate; drought-tolerant once established, does not tolerate wet soil.

Rain Garden Use: Not recommended; prefers well-drained soils.

Pollinator Value: Excellent pollinator plant. Attracts native bees, bumblebees, and butterflies.

Deer Resistance: Yes. Generally deer- and rabbit-resistant.

Other Notes: Very long-lived and low-maintenance. Choose a permanent spot, as it dislikes being moved.
