Backyard Native Seed Collection Drive
The goal is simple: help people reconnect with the land they live on — and use the seeds already thriving in local yards to grow a stronger, more resilient Mahoning Valley.
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just someone who forgot to deadhead the coneflowers, your backyard might be exactly what this project needs. Those seeds are already proven to grow here — and when you share them, they become the roots of something bigger: restoring habitat, fighting flooding, and giving native plants a fighting chance.

Why Your Backyard Seeds Matter
Your backyard seeds matter because they’re already adapted to our local soil, weather, and conditions — which means they’re more likely to thrive.
Your seed donation will help grow native plants right here in the Mahoning Valley — seedlings started in our greenhouse will be used in real community projects like local rain gardens to prevent neighborhood flooding, pollinator habitats in schoolyards and parks, and free plant giveaways that make native gardening more accessible to everyone.
Common Backyard Natives
These are just a few examples. We accept ALL Native species; straight natives are preferred but cultivars are also accepted. When in doubt, contact us at sunstonegarden@gmail.com.
