In Our Community

Sunstone grows close to home — in schoolyards, backyards, rain gardens,
and neighborhood spaces. These are the places where seeds are shared,
water slows, and people reconnect with the natural world around them.

GREENHOUSE

Founder, Irisa Green in private greenhouse

The Greenhouse

In our private greenhouse, located in Mahoning County, seeds become seedlings and native plants (& Dahlias) begin their first season of growth. Many are started from wild-foraged seed collected here in Northeast Ohio. What begins in this small space spreads outward — into gardens, neighborhoods, and landscapes across the region. Not open to the public at this time.

RAIN GARDENS & RUNOFF

Rain Garden Boardman, OH

Rain Gardens & Runoff

Across our neighborhoods, rain gardens help water slow down, soak in, and return to the soil. Guided by certified watershed training and recognized locally through Mahoning County Soil & Water, these planted basins reduce runoff, support pollinators, and bring more life back to everyday landscapes.

MONARCH WAYSTATIONS

Monarch Waystations

Milkweed, native blooms, and small garden beds become resting places for monarchs and other pollinators. Simple waystations like these create pockets of habitat throughout the community, helping butterflies find food and shelter as they travel.

In Spring 2025, we created this free toolkit that makes it easy for Northeast Ohio homeowners to create certified Monarch Waystations. It includes a simple 10'x10' native plant garden design, planning tips, signage ideas, and low-maintenance care guidance — no experience needed.
